This one crops up from time-to-time for me, and as I frequently ask myself questions, this post lays a digital trail for me to come back to in future.
Search Console
Search Console, which used to be called Webmaster Tools, is Google’s mechanism through which diligent website owners and managers may interact with their indexing in the world’s best-known search engine.
As well as allowing you to post sitemaps (and you should do this) the console provides verbose feedback about errors and warnings which may inhibit your search engine ranking.
Search Console also contains some nice statistics, allowing you to monitor how well your site is ranking, over time, in Google searches.
When I mention search console, I try to tag my post “Search Console” which puts it into the list of posts, below, in chronological order (most recently updated at the top).

I’ve had to explain this a few times recently, so probably there isn’t a good, clear explanation out there on Google, for this little corner of Google 🙂
Search Console Error “Referenced AMP URL is not an AMP”
This error will show up in Google Search Console (AKA Webmaster Tools or WMT) if there is an error with some or all of your AMP pages.
Google Search Console Error: Either “offers”, “review”, or “aggregateRating” should be specified
Here’s an error which has started showing up for a lot of stores’ product category pages – WooCommerce stores in particular – in Google Search Console:
New Google AMP Warning “Image size smaller than recommended size”
If you’re running AMP for fast loading pages on the mobile web (and, if you’re not, you should give it a try, it’s awesome!), you maybe got a notification in Search Console (AKA Google Webmaster Tools) that “Image size smaller than recommended size” for some or all of your AMP content.
