Two matches took place on Thursday 5 December 2019, in the Premier League, as season 19/20 continued.
Premier League Highlights from both of the day’s matches are below.
Official Premier League 19/20 Highlights
I like to post the official UK highlights for Premier League, UEFA Champions League and other football I enjoy watching, from the rights holders.
For Premier League, in 2019/20, that means Sky Sports, from whom I post embedded YouTube videos from the official channel, all into one, ad-free, fast loading, page, for football fans to quickly enjoy all the day’s play in one place… see below!
Sheffield United v Newcastle United (0-2)
Newcastle picked up a solid away win which saw them rise to 11th in the table, thanks to a goal in each half from Saint-Maximin (15) and Shelvey (70).
Let’s not pretend Shelvey’s goal wasn’t contentious. It was. Hugely so. The linesman flagged for offside, against Andy Carroll, who had risen to meet a flick-on, onto which Shelvey ran. Players appealed. The flag went up. Shelvey slotted past a half-hearted goalkeeper. Then we went upstairs to VAR… Carroll had been onside. Goal stands. Argh!
Play to the whistle.
Arguably, the assistant should not have flagged, but the referee was right to let the play finish.
Must try harder in future, line-o.
That said, Toon were good value for their win.
Arsenal v Brighton (1-2)
The Gunners have hardly been able to buy a win, this term, and so it proved again, as they were beaten 2-1 at home against Brighton, despite a recent change of manager.
Freddie Ljungberg’s first home match at the helm was largely similar to his predecessor’s form, as Neal Maupay bagged a late header to take three points back from the capital.
