“I Want to Make a Roblox Game but I don’t know how”

If you have a young person in the household, you may hear a comment like this. So perhaps, if you are the family tech support, you’ll be looking for a tutorial to get your child on the pathway to making their own Roblox game. Or maybe, you’re looking to do this yourself, and have found your way here.

I’m going to start at the very beginning though, so you can skip on ahead if you are past where we’re up to here.

1. Set Up Roblox Studio

  • Download and Install: First, you’ll need to download Roblox Studio. It’s free and comes with everything you need to start creating.
  • Explore the Interface: Spend some time getting familiar with the Roblox Studio interface. You’ll use it to build, script, and test your game.

2. Learn the Basics of Lua Programming

3. Follow Tutorials and Build Simple Projects

  • Step-by-Step Tutorials: Start with simple projects, like creating a basic obstacle course or a simple game. This will help you get hands-on experience with scripting and building.
  • Modify Existing Games: You can also take existing Roblox games and modify them to understand how scripts interact with objects.

4. Join the Roblox Developer Community

  • Ask for Help: There’s a huge community of Roblox developers who can offer advice, answer questions, and provide feedback on your projects. Check out forums like the Roblox Developer Forum.
  • Collaborate: Consider teaming up with others. You can learn a lot by working on group projects.

5. Practice and Experiment

  • Build Your Own Game: Once you’re comfortable with Lua and Roblox Studio, start working on your own game idea. It doesn’t have to be perfect; the key is to keep learning and improving.
  • Test and Iterate: Test your game frequently to find and fix bugs. Don’t be afraid to experiment with new ideas and features.

6. Publish Your Game

  • Share with Friends: Once your game is ready, you can publish it on Roblox for others to play. You might even start to gain some players and feedback!

Remember, learning to code takes time and practice, so don’t get discouraged if things seem tough at first. With patience and persistence, you can create some amazing Roblox games. Have fun coding!
